Cole Palmer to Liverpool is a crazy rumour but it's one that remains a possibility.

Liverpool have been linked with the Chelsea star recently with reporter Simon Phillips revealing that the Reds are one of two clubs who have enquired about the England international recently.

It's a move that is still very unlikely to happen but this report would at least suggest Liverpool think there is a chance Palmer could be on the move this summer.

That alone is enough to get us interested in a possible transfer for the Chelsea star. Palmer is probably one of the best no.10s in European football at the moment.

He's an England international and he's still very young at just 22-years-old.

Sure, he's had a bit of a dip in terms of his form recently but he's still made 22 goal contributions in the Premier League this season.

The prospect of him teaming up with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo, as well as potential new no.9 at Anfield is one that is mouthwatering.

There's only one way this happens though. The only way Chelsea may possibly entertain a move or Palmer may consider forcing a transfer is if the Blues miss out on Champions League football.

Right now, they are on course to reach Europe's elite sitting in 5th place, which is an automatic qualification spot.

However, they are hanging onto that spot by a thin margin, with Nottingham Forest below them level on points and only trailing due to the goal aggregate.

With four games to go every point matters. It's truly that stage of the season and so while for Liverpool nothing hinges on Sunday's tie against Chelsea, it could still be important in their pursuit of Palmer.

If Liverpool beat Chelsea, it takes the Reds a step closer to actually being able to sign Palmer. Forest below them face a Crystal Palace side with not much left to play for.

This is followed up by Forest's next two fixtures being Leicester City and West Ham United - games they should win.

Chelsea on the other hand face Manchester United and Newcastle United, games that they are not guaranteed to win by any stretch of the imagination.

Meanwhile on the final day of the season, the two sides will face each other in what could be the ultimate showdown. Although if Chelsea drop a few points against Liverpool, Newcastle and Man United, it may not come to that.

For Liverpool there is a clear incentive here. Clearly they like Palmer. Undoubtedly, he'd be a great fit in Slot's system.

So, while nothing is on the line on Sunday, making Chelsea's qualification to the Champions League a bit more difficult and therefore forcing them closer to being in a situation that could allow Palmer to consider leaving Stamford Bridge means there is still something to play for.

If Liverpool win, those rumours about Palmer will perhaps sound a little less crazier as Chelsea have to reckon without another year of Champions League football.

Palmer is a fantastic player, but Liverpool needs to go after Kerkes & Huijsen from Bournmoth first and foremost.
