Liverpool completed a British record transfer for Florian Wirtz over the summer.

The Bayer Leverkusen title winner moved to Anfield for a fee that could end up reaching £116m if all add-ons are triggered.

Wirtz, 22, has made an admittedly slow start in Liverpool colours - but there is no doubting that his quality will soon shine through.

And sporting director Richard Hughes did not sign Wirtz for the short term. The Germany international put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Anfield.

Bayern miss out on Wirtz

Once he gets to grips with the hustle and bustle of English football, he will become one of the top playmakers in the game once again.

Liverpool ousted Bayern Munich in the chase for Wirtz - a game-changing transfer considering the Bavarians have ALWAYS had a monopoly on the best German talent.

But they were beaten to the punch by Liverpool in their own Bundesliga backyard - with Arne Slot’s philosophy winning out over Bayern’s plan for the clever No7.

Wirtz "a great fit" for Bayern

Former Bayern chairman - Karl-Heinz Rummenigge - was interviewed this week and the question of Wirtz’s signing was put to the Bayern and Germany legend.

Rummenigge regrets that FC Hollywood missed out on the big-money signing of Wirtz - but added that he’s optimistic that Wirtz will end up at the Allianz Arena one day.

"Florian Wirtz would have been a great fit for FC Bayern,” he told Münchner Merkur.

“And I also believe it would have been better for him personally if he had made the move to Munich rather than Liverpool.”

Bayern want Wirtz to reconsider

Bayern were unable to convince the attacker that his future was best served by remaining in the German top flight.

"We respect his decision, but I regret it a little because he would have fit exactly into FC Bayern's profile: We always want to sign the best German players. Perhaps he'll reconsider at some point,” Rummenigge concluded.

But with Liverpool having paid a record fee for the Germany international - and securing him to a five-year deal - there is next to NO chance he moves back to Bayern anytime soon.
