Across the season so far, there's been indecision as to whether Arne Slot's job is safe.

The period where Liverpool had lost nine of their last 12 games was the height of the speculation.

Fortunately, the Reds have managed to turn their fortunes around since then, winning four games in a row and managing to stay unbeaten in their last seven. The team now looks a lot more settled.

However, things are quite back to normal yet, and it's not cut and dry as to whether Slot stays around.

Failure to qualify for next season's Champions League could be a deal-breaker for owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) and it's this lack of clarity over the situation that is reportedly causing problems.

Guehi is concerned about Liverpool

According to Football Insider, defender Marc Guehi has doubts over whether the Reds are the best club for him to join in the summer, with the risk of Slot losing his job being cited as an ongoing issue.

In the report, Wayne Veysey not only suggests that Chelsea are now interested in the England star, but also goes into detail over the reasons why Liverpool might not be guaranteed to secure a deal.

He said: "Liverpool's interest in the summer was strong and advanced, but it remains to be seen if the defender can be tempted by alternative offers. The Reds have endured a difficult season after winning the Premier League in May, and the uncertain future of Arne Slot may weigh heavily on any decision."

Immediately, it must be said that Slot's contract only runs until 2027 as the club decided it was best to afford him a short term deal to replace Jurgen Klopp before committing on a more long-term basis.

Winning the Premier League convinced a lot of fans last season that Slot deserved to be the head coach for the foreseeable, although no one could've predicted this season's mixed bag of form.

There should be no doubt that Guehi could fit into Slot's tactical plan straight away. It's been mooted that Virgil Van Dijk could change position to become a right-sided centre-back, and that would allow Guehi to play in his natural role. But the 26-year-old has played across the back-line for Crystal Palace, and regardless of how the Reds decided to set-up, you feel he's capable of performing well.

Alternatively, it's possible to view the concern over Slot's future as a positive thing perhaps, given the flexibility for Liverpool to play a 3-4-3 formation, much like Guehi is playing in for the Eagles.

Jeremie Frimpong is a wing-back by trade and Florian Wirtz's breakout seasons came under Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen, in yet another tactical set-up which included a back-three. Furthermore, the double-pivot in midfield would translate straight over to a 3-4-3, if the Reds changed things up.

What's more interesting if whether the remainder of Liverpool's signings would be impacted by Slot's future at Liverpool, because while Guehi would fit most systems, it's plausible that a lot of others might need to be more tailored to the long-term plan that Richard Hughes or FSG have got in mind.

If the Reds continue their fine vein of form, the Guehi won't have anything to worry about, but things could get interesting if Slot's position as head coach comes under threat again later in the season.
