Arne Slot has missed out on a couple of dream transfers over the years but not all hope is lost.

The Dutchman has admiration for a lot of players in the market and the head coach's reputation often precedes him. There are always stories of mutual appreciation on both sides. You'll often find Slot openly talking in a press conference about opposition players and how the Reds will try to beat them.

It's an underrated trait in football for there to be a level of respect between two clubs between a match and it's just one part of the reason why Slot was such a brilliant choice to follow Jurgen Klopp.

Back when the coach was at AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord, one player in particular caught his eye and now the pair of them are in the Premier League, the ambition to finally work with him is clear to see.

Slot to get his DREAM transfer?

The player question Micky van de Ven at Tottenham Hotspur, who is still just 24 years old.

According to The Boy Hotspur, he has caught the eye of Liverpool and Chelsea in particular, with the two clubs joining Real Madrid and Bayern Munich who are also monitoring him, per club sources.

The report notes that the Dutchman's future is uncertain because of Tottenham's 'conservative wage structure', since he only earns around £55,000 a week - despite being one of their leading players.

Currently, his contract is set to expire in 2029 which gives Spurs the advantage in keeping him, although the terms of his current deal might be a cause for concern, opening up a move away.

A previous report from Anfield Watch referenced quotes from the player where he spoke of his mismatched relationship with Slot and their inability to work with each other so far in their careers.

He said: "Arne Slot wanted to sign me for AZ when he saw me play in the first season at Volendam. The club refused to sell me and I had to accept that they would not let me go.

"When he was at Feyenoord he tried to sign me too, but by then I had already signed for Wolfsburg in Germany. Slot is doing really well. Liverpool is now a fantastic team and he is showing again what a brilliant coach he is."

Given the looming departure of Virgil Van Dijk in the next few years as the Reds' captain nears the end of his career, it would be unsurprising if Slot's intention is to try once again to bring Van de Ven to his club and take over the reigns from his fellow countryman in Liverpool's defence.

So while we might have to sit tight on this one, there's reason to feel quietly optimistic in future.
