‘I don’t want to know’: Manager speaks out on Liverpool interest in £100m forward
Liverpool completed a landmark summer transfer window - with sporting director Richard Hughes overseeing £450m worth of spending.
There was a major overhaul in attack - with Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Ben Gannon-Doak all leaving in major deals.
Hughes was happy to break the British transfer record TWICE for replacements - paying up to £116m for Florian Wirtz and £125m for Alexander Isak.
The other high-profile attacker to arrive was Hugo Ekitike - who signed from Eintracht Frankfurt for an initial £69m.
But Liverpool aren’t done there. Plans are afoot for ANOTHER major attacking upgrade in 2026.
Liverpool to make big winger move in 2026
Mo Salah, out of contract in 2027, is expected to have new competition next season and the likes of Michael Olise and Antoine Semenyo have been linked as potential arrivals.
Hughes’ history with Semenyo could ultimately prove to be a big advantage in any chase for the 25-year-old Ghana attacker. Semenyo signed for current club Bournemouth back in 2023 when Hughes was the Cherries’ technical director.
Semenyo agreed a new contract for the south coast side over the summer and there have been varying reports over whether or not his new deal includes a release clause.
Iraola: I don't want to know
The question was put to Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola ahead of his side’s clash wtih Crystal Palace in the Premier League this weekend.
“No, I don’t know anything about the contract of the players, I don’t know how much they earn, I don’t want to know also,” Iraola said as reported by the Bournemouth Echo.
“For me, the only thing is he continues like he is, he is playing well so there will be more noise but it is something that we take if he is playing very well, making the numbers, and is scoring.
“For us he is a valuable player but it is not my job to say these things [transfer values], fortunately for me.”
Semenyo rated at £100m
It has been suggested that Semenyo could be worth as much as £100m for the Dean Court outfit if he was to depart - with Liverpool joined by Tottenham and Manchester United in their interest.
“You want me to say this [Semenyo is a £100m player], you are trying… don’t worry I’m not going to say it,” Iraola concluded.
Semenyo has been in great form for his club this season - and hasn’t looked back since scoring two on the opening day of the campaign against Liverpool at Anfield.
