Liverpool could be looking at another major attacking overhaul in summer - just one year on from their mammoth £450m spending spree.

Last year Richard Hughes concluded deals for Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz - British record transfers - and also signed Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.

That improved the centre of Liverpool’s attack but it looks like improvements on the wings will be sourced at the end of the current campaign.

We could see competition come in for Cody Gakpo on the left side of the frontline - while the future of Mohamed Salah on the right remains unresolved.

Liverpool once again linked with Gordon

And one old target who Hughes could revisit is Anthony Gordon - having narrowly failed to sign the England winger in 2024.

Back then Newcastle were in severe PSR difficulty and had to face up to selling players to make ends meet. Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson ultimately made way - ensuring Gordon could eventually stay at St. James’ Park and sign a new deal.

But the transfer reports linking Gordon with a return to Merseyside are resurfacing - with TEAMtalk now claiming that the 24-year-old would love a move to Anfield.

Gordon would jump at Liverpool chance

“Publicly, Gordon denies claims that he’d be interested in a move to Liverpool – but it is our understanding that he would jump at the chance to sign for his boyhood club, if it arises,” the report reads.

The wide attacker was let go by Liverpool as a schoolboy before he made his way into the game with Everton.

Since joining Newcastle in 2023 he has bloomed into a top-quality in the Premier League and Champions League - netting 10 European goals this season alone.

Gordon could cost £125m

And Newcastle know exactly the kind of player they’ve got on their hands - and wouldn’t be prepared to sell him for any less than the £125m they received from Liverpool for Isak.

“This stance comes less than a year after Alexander Isak’s record-breaking £125million move to Liverpool, but Newcastle are adamant that any exit would require a similarly extraordinary offer,” the report reads.

Gordon would no doubt give Liverpool an added boost in attack - capable of playing in multiple positions - and comes with homegrown status to boot.
