Liverpool have been encouraged to make a bid for Anthony Gordon.

The England forward, 25, has been with Newcastle since January 2023. Owing to difficulty in meeting PSR obligations he was close to joining Liverpool back in summer 2024.

But the Magpies ended up balancing the books by selling Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh instead - with Gordon signing a fresh contract at St. James’ Park.

However he looks certain to leave this summer as the Geordies struggle to meet stringent new financial obligations.

And Telegraph reporter Luke Edwards has now opened the door to a Liverpool move for Gordon - boldly stating that the winger would be off if a bid of £100m is made.

Newcastle 'open for business'

“The club will have to be open for business as they look to improve player trading to comply with new financial rules,” he writes.

“The asking price for both Tonali and Gordon would exceed £100m each, as they are both under contract until 2030.”

Gordon - a boyhood Liverpool player - ended up forging a career away from Anfield. He joined Everton before completing a controversial deal to move to Newcastle.

Since then he has emerged as a consistent threat in both the Premier League and Champions League. And Edwards admits that the sensation around Newcastle is that he has been considering an exit ever since his move to Liverpool collapsed.

Gordon wants Liverpool move

“The suspicion is he has had one eye on the exit since a move to Liverpool fell through in 2024,” he writes.

Gordon has been playing as an auxiliary centre-forward for Eddie Howe this season - being especially impressive in the Champions League.

But he is also at home on the left wing and has even pitched up in Mohamed Salah’s position on the right.

Gordon would add a bit of sparkle and quality to the Liverpool attack - and they should be right there for his signature now that Newcastle have declared themselves open for business.
