Juventus to give Richard Hughes agonising transfer decision
Liverpool will be hoping that Juventus manage to qualify for the Champions League at the end of the current season.
The Bianconeri will be set for a €60m windfall if they secure a return to European football’s top competition - and the club’s transfer priorities will be adjusted accordingly.
Changes are being eyed by Luciano Spalletti’s side in the goalkeeping department - where Michele Di Gregorio hasn’t always impressed.
Guglielmo Vicario, 29, is reported to be Juve’s first choice with the Tottenham goalkeeper set to cost between €25m and €30m.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claims Vicario is open to a return to Serie A - but also that he represents the high-cost option for a goalkeeping alteration.
Juve planning Alisson raid
The other possibility is that Juve don’t qualify for the Champions League and have to go in for a cheaper goalkeeper - and Gazzetta claims that the player in mind is Alisson Becker.
Out of contract in 2027 - and now aged 33 - Alisson could be tempted back to Serie A where he played under Spalletti for Roma before joining Liverpool.
The report claims that the Premier League champions have also made up their minds about Alisson’s replacement - and that Giorgi Mamardashvili will be given the gloves.
Liverpool to trigger Alisson contract extension
Brazil No1 Alisson remains one of the best goalkeepers in the world and it would be a surprise to see Richard Hughes sanction a deal based on his ability alone.
But finances might well dictate that a move for Alisson is too good to turn down - with the Reds set to activate a one-year contract extension in his current deal.
That will tie the goalkeeper’s future to the club until 2027 - meaning a chance to cash in this summer and also help to bring down the wage bill.
Alisson is among Liverpool’s top earners - with his salary reported to be between £150k and £210k per week according to various sources.
