Alexis Mac Allister BOMBSHELL: Real Madrid want agreement for midfielder

The signing of Florian Wirtz has had a big impact on the Liverpool midfield.

Although the 22-year-old has played mostly at No10 - with the occasional outing on the left wing - his arrival on a deal worth up to £116m means Dominik Szoboszlai has been ousted from his usual station.

Instead of playing in the advanced midfield role, the Hungary captain has played at No6, No8 and even at right-back.

The 24-year-old’s form has been very good in all positions he’s played and right now he looks like one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Richard Hughes must make big Mac Allister decision

That in turn is bound to have an effect on Alexis Mac Allister.

Having finished the 2024/25 season in an injured state, the 26-year-old did not have an adequate preseason campaign. He came back to the club short of his best form - failing to complete 90 minutes in the Premier League thus far.

If it came down to it, Szoboszlai is likely to have the edge over the Argentina World Cup winner in a head-to-head battle. And that makes reports of Real Madrid’s interest in signing the No10 all the more intriguing.

Mac Allister is only contracted until 2028 and the time will soon come for Richard Hughes to make a decision.

"Danger on the horizon" for Liverpool

And according to a separate report in Real Madrid Exclusivo, moving to the Bernabeu is something Mac Allister is willing to consider

“The player then appears to be exploring the possibility of joining the best team in the world in the coming years,” the report reads.

Liverpool are quite well protected from a transfer fee perspective right now. But things could change if the club don’t offer to extend his contract.

And given Mac Allister’s quality and consistency over the past couple of seasons, as things stand the Anfield club would be entitled to command top dollar.

“However, it's Liverpool that's starting to see the danger on the horizon, settling on an impossible fee,” the report continues.

“€150 million is what they're asking for the Argentine footballer to leave the British club for Madrid.”

That would be a sensational fee for Mac Allister - who has looked short of of his best form this season. If he doesn’t regain his form throughout the rest of the campaign then Hughes could very well have a big decision on his hands.
