Insider shares what he saw £125m deadline day signing Alexander Isak do before debut
Liverpool signed Alexander Isak for £125m on transfer deadline day. Newcastle’s resistance was broken right at the last minute - with their star attraction completing a British record move to Anfield.
The Sweden forward jetted straight off for international duty - but barely figured for Jon Dahl-Tomasson’s side as he works his way to full fitness.

Isak, 25, had NO preseason to speak of - missing Newcastle’s tour to Asia - and sitting out their opening three matches of the Premier League season too.

But now it finally looks like the striker is ready to hit the ground running for Arne Slot’s side.
Isak looks ahead of schedule already
He made a promising debut for Liverpool as they began their 2025/26 Champions League campaign with a home win against Atletico Madrid at Anfield.
Although Isak didn’t score across his hour or so of action, the new No9 had a promising outing. Arne Slot had previously said it would take Isak a while to build up match fitness but there were few signs of rustiness here.
Isak in fact looks to be ahead of schedule - and could even get his second consecutive start this weekend when the Premier League title holders take on Everton in the Merseyside derby.
Isak's '100 percent hit rate'
Lewis Steele, the Liverpool insider, shared what he noticed about Isak ahead of the European game under lights on Wednesday night.
Despite his relative lack of match action, Isak was spotted rifling in several shots during his pre-game drills. That display of unerring finishing impressed Steele, who claims Isak is looking “sharper than expected.”
“I watched his every move in the warm-up and he had a 100 per cent hit rate in the shooting drills – but could not replicate that in the real game as his efforts went just wide of the mark,” he wrote.
“But ahead of the Merseyside Derby on Saturday, Isak is looking sharper than expected.”
Let that be taken as a warning by the rest of the Premier League. Liverpool have got even BETTER since winning the title - and Isak is going to be a fearsome threat once he’s at his own, personal best.
Having scored 23 goals for a vastly inferior Newcastle side last season, the potential for him to achieve great things on Merseyside is frightening.
