Liverpool to REJECT offers as wonderkid given first-team role
Liverpool are to reject offers for a wonderkid as he's to have a first-team role. That's according to a new report.
Liverpool’s squad is in a delicate position right now. The Reds have suffered a series of injuries to hamper the side, particularly in defence.
It’s made January an interesting month for them with the transfer window opening again. Would they move to strengthen the position in which they’ve suffered those injuries?
Well, the answer has been a resounding ‘no’. Liverpool haven’t moved for any senior players despite the fact they tried and failed to sign Marc Guehi at the end of the summer window.
There was no attempt to sign him before he went to Manchester City, nor does there appear to be any alternative this month. Liverpool are keeping their squad the same.
And that goes for outgoings, too. Even players who aren’t featuring are to be kept on - just in case.
Trey Nyoni to stay at Anfield
The Athletic reports that Liverpool will reject any attempts from clubs to sign Trey Nyoni this month. There's apparently plenty of interest in the young midfielder but the Reds won't let him go.
Why? Because they can't afford to lighten the squad anymore. Nyoni is to be given a first-team role over the second half of the season but he's supposed to have had one over the first half, too.
Arne Slot has barely used him, however. Nyoni has appeared just twice in the Premier League this season - both as a stoppage time substitute.
And yet, Liverpool want to hang onto him. It feels like a somewhat strange decision as Slot is clearly reluctant to call on the teenager. Thus it feels as though he'll simply lose a season of decent development at a time when he could really use it.
As always, time will tell if it's the right decision. It's difficult to see the positives, though.
