Liverpool to go to war with Manchester United for €65 million star
Liverpool are already planning their summer business. They’ve got one deal done and a second could follow soon.
A £60 million move for defender Jeremy Jacquet was announced at the end of the winter window, and negotiations over the Reds’ second move are reportedly underway.
One of the areas that needs addressing most this summer is Arne Slot’s midfield, which has come under heavy criticism recently.
It may not be Slot in the dugout at Anfield after the summer, but midfield additions are needed regardless.
A few high-profile targets have been linked with a Merseyside move, but the Reds now look set to battle their biggest rival for one of Europe’s most exciting talents.
Liverpool to challenge Manchester United for Bundesliga star
One of the most spoken about options for Liverpool this summer is VfB Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller.
The 25-year-old has emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s best midfielders this season and looks set for a big move in the upcoming window.
According to German outlet Fussballdaten, that move could be to either Liverpool or Manchester United.
The report claims that Liverpool view Stiller as the ‘perfect compliment’ to their system, but will face competition from the Red Devils, Real Madrid and Inter Milan.
Stiller’s contract does include a €40 million (~£35m) release clause, but Stuttgart reportedly have the option to pay Stiller €2 million in order to nullify the clause.
This would put the club in complete control of the finances of any deal for the 25-year-old.
With so many top teams interested, it could cost considerably more than €40 million to secure Stiller’s signature, with the report quoting a figure of €65 million (~£56.5m).
The seven-time German international has certainly impressed this season, so Liverpool could be tempted to meet Stuttgart’s valuation early in order to get ahead of their rivals.
Stiller is reportedly after a five-year deal on a wage of around £150,000 per week, which Liverpool would have no problem agreeing to.
Liverpool’s success in the chase for Stiller could ultimately come down to whether or not the Reds qualify for the Champions League, but a deal certainly looks possible as the window creeps closer to opening.
