The Reds have disappointed this campaign and for many supporters the transfer window will be the best opportunity to resolve several issues with the squad.

One of the biggest priorities for Richard Hughes will be reinforcing Liverpool’s midfield, and a number of top options have already been linked.

Every senior midfielder at Anfield has been linked with a move away at least once this season too, so some big changes could be on the horizon.

It is unclear how many midfielders Liverpool will target this summer, but their interest in one long-term target has been reignited according to a recent report.

Reds to finally move for top Premier League midfielder

Liverpool completely rebuilt their midfield in the summer of 2023, adding Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo all in one window.

The Reds haven’t added anyone in that department since but there is one Premier League star that they have been constantly linked with, Brighton’s Carlos Baleba.

Now, transfer insider Ekrem Konur has once again linked Liverpool with a move for the Cameroon international, saying that the Reds have the aim of restructuring the squad this summer.

Baleba has been in and out of Brighton’s team in recent weeks, struggling to nail down a starting place after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.

It’s believed Brighton are looking to receive around £70 million for the 22-year-old this summer, a notable decrease from the £100m+ asking price of recent windows.

Baleba has been on Liverpool’s radar since he first shot to prominence with Brighton, and he was one of the Seagulls' most important players last season.

If the midfielder is available this summer, it seems unlikely that Liverpool will be the only team interested but the Reds could try and get a deal done early in order to secure his services.

At only 22, Baleba fits Liverpool’s recent transfer strategy perfectly, and a Merseyside move feels like a real possibility heading into the summer.
