Liverpool suffer transfer blow hours after crushing Manchester City defeat
Liverpool are undertaking a rebuild of their squad.
Richard Hughes oversaw a significant investment in the attack last summer, signing Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz for around £320 million.
The next point of focus for Liverpool will be the defence, with a £60 million deal already announced that will bring centre-half Jeremy Jacquet to Anfield in the summer.
The defensive acquisitions won’t stop with the Frenchman though and several names have been linked with a Merseyside move.
Nico Schlotterbeck is one of the most spoken about options, and a recent public disagreement threw the German’s future into doubt, but a fresh report has cleared up a few questions about the situation.
Schlotterbeck update sheds light on defender’s future
When it was reported recently that Schlotterbeck was close to agreeing a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund, there was little hope that a deal could be agreed this summer.

The 26-year-old came out and publicly disputed these reports however, claiming that they exaggerated just how close he was to signing a new deal, and this sparked rumours that a move this summer could be on after all.
Speaking to Sky Sports in Germany on Saturday, the defender has now given another update on his contract situation.
“I had a good conversation with Lars Ricken and with Ole Book. The talks will continue this week,” Schlotterbeck said.
“I think it won’t take much longer before I make a decision. I’ve said it all along: of course I can imagine staying. But all the discussions have to be right. Now we’ll see how things develop.”
Whilst that update doesn’t completely close the door on a summer move, it isn’t positive for Liverpool.
BVB recently switched sporting directors, from Ricken to Book, and this is what has reportedly caused the delay in Schlotterbeck’s extension.
His new deal is said to include a release clause, which would leave the door open for a future Merseyside move, but at the moment a summer switch seems unlikely.
