Some players are just meant to play for Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah was one of them. Even when he joined Chelsea from Basel after the Reds could not get the deal done to bring him to Anfield, you had a sense destiny would ultimately give him another chance.

Ultimately, it did, and the rest is history.

There are other players like this as well. Dominik Szoboszlai has a tattoo of a quote from Steven Gerrard on his arm. Cody Gakpo had a pastor tell him he would sign for Liverpool before it actually happened.

Now it feels like there's another player who could join this list in Jeremie Frimpong. Rumours are heating up about a transfer for the Netherlands international as Liverpool pursue a replacement for Alexander-Arnold.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Frimpong is one of the main players on the shortlist.

Around the same time, Paul Joyce writing in The Times said Frimpong was a leading candidate for Liverpool.

He has a release clause in his contract worth €35m - which makes him an absolute bargain - and it also makes him just the perfect signing.

Especially because he has been waiting for this moment for close to 15 years. The 24-year-old revealed in an interview in an interview with Rising Ballers that when he was first spotted at grassroots level, he wanted to join Liverpool.

Back then he was just nine years old and the drive to Liverpool's training centre in Kirkby was too much for his parents to take on.

That's why he joined Manchester City's U9 team instead and spent close to a decade playing for Liverpool's rivals before making the switch to Celtic.

Even that move is kind of a great omen for Liverpool. Kenny Dalglish was an ex-Celtic player and he became one of the most iconic figures Liverpool's history.

Most recently, Virgil van Dijk has become another iconic figure at Anfield to play for Celtic before joining Liverpool.

Frimpong could very well follow suit of the two of them. There's a really strong chance of that this summer.

Unless you want to sign Achraf Hakimi, which is never going to happen, the market is really sparse for right-back this summer.

Frimpong is the best possible option. He's the best wing-back in world football and he's been performing at an elite level for years.

Now with Joyce and Romano, two really credible sources when it comes to Liverpool news, both reporting that Frimpong is at the top of the list of targets, it feels like the Reds could be closing in on a move.

Frimpong's first choice after all has always been Liverpool. And now it seems like Liverpool's first choice is Frimpong.

It won't even take a lot for the Reds to complete this deal with the release clause already being in place. So, after 15 long years, it's finally written in the stars.
