Liverpool set to END worrying transfer trend
Liverpool are usually pretty astute in the transfer market, but there is one thing that they kept getting wrong.
The Reds went big in the summer and it is starting to pay off, with all of the signings now settled in and starting to show their quality more consistently.
However, they are still short in certain areas of the pitch, with their defence the biggest worry due to only having two options as things stand due to injuries, although they still needed reinforcements before that.
Fans are starting to get frustrated too at their lack of activity, with losing out on Marc Guehi the final straw for most of them, and understandably so.
But there is a trend that was starting to become very worrying to say the least, but it looks like Liverpool may have finally ended it after a very long time.
Jeremy Jacquet ends Liverpool's worrying centre-back trend
Liverpool have needed a centre-back for an while and they have even been in this position before where they were short of options while aiming to retain their title.
On both occasions, it has cost them massively, which is why the signing of Jeremey Jacquet comes as a huge relief to supporters.
He will not join until the summer, but he will be just the third centre-back signing over the age of 20 for Liverpool since Virgil van Dijk in 2018.
One of these was Ben Davies, however, who never even played for the club, with the other being Ibrahima Konate.
Other centre-back signings since the Dutchman have been Giovanni Leoni, Sepp van den Berg, and Ozan Kabak, although the latter was only on loan.
This shows just how much Liverpool have limited themselves over the years in signing players at the back, with it really no surprise why they have struggled so much this season.
Jacquet really will be a welcomed arrival as he puts to an end this abysmal trend, although just how good he will turn out to be is as good a guess as any.
Liverpool still need another centre-back in the summer
Although Jacquet will arrive in the summer, Konate looks like he will be on his way out, meaning they will have not actually added depth.
With that said, another defender is still needed, two if Joe Gomez also leaves, suggesting it will be another busy summer for the Reds.
A versatile option would be best, someone who can cover the full-back positions if needed, but who that could be is not yet known.
Van Dijk is not getting any younger either, meaning they will have to plan for life without him soon, so another statement signing could be on the cards.
