Liverpool set for shake-up as major transfer news emerges from Anfield
Over the last couple of summer transfer window's, Liverpool's first-team squad has been dramatically changed.
Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz are the faces of the Reds' attack and, now that Bradley Barcola has joined, he's also going to be playing a regular role for Andoni Iraola.
However, as with every team, there are always ways for them to improve and, in Liverpool's case, they could really do with adding a new player or two to their ranks.
Certain areas of their squad have already have a decent chunk of change spent on them but, there are still some which are causing a couple of problems.
Of course, it's still early in the season so it's unclear how things will have actually ended up until the end of the campaign but, at the moment, fans want to see change and without that, Liverpool won't really have the chance to challenge for silverware.
That is, even though one of their main goals this term will be to add another trophy to their cabinet.
All of these ideas point to several changes taking place and now, a major shake-up seems to be on it's way to L4.
Julian Ward wants to spend big in January to help improve Liverpool
Liverpool may have spent over £150 million on new players in the summer but, that doesn't mean that their business is done yet.
As mentioned, there are still a fair few problem areas among the Reds' ranks and, while some need to be upgraded more than others, change is almost certainly afoot.
Most people expect clubs to not do all that much business in January due to how little time they have to agree deals.
But, since Liverpool need new players now, it looks like the winter transfer window could end up being a busy one for them.
Some members of their first-team squad have already been linked with moves away and now, thanks to an update from TEAMtalk, it seems like the Anfield outfit are going to look to make a 'big splash' in the upcoming window.
"The club, now under the regime of new sporting director Julian Ward, are keen to make a big splash in January in a show of faith to their new man," they wrote.
"The Reds, performing well so far under new boss Andoni Iraola, do have several holes in their squad that need addressing across upcoming transfer windows; not least in both full-back positions and in central midfield.
"However, another big demand lies on the right side of the attack, and the failure to replace Mohamed Salah with a like-for-like replacement over the summer leaves Iraola with a problem to fix."
Liverpool spending big in January could help turn their entire season around
At the moment, things are going quite well for Liverpool.
The Anfield outfit are unbeaten across all competitions and, although they're sixth in the Premier League, they're only six points adrift of first-placed Manchester City.
Obviously, this could all change by the time their players return from the international break so, a bit of a pick-me-up in January would probably be rather helpful.
At the moment, it's unclear which players the Reds are going to try and sign in January but with top-class talent such as Kevin Schade, Brian Brobbey and Nico Schlotterbeck all being linked, an entirely new-look Liverpool team could end up being started in February.
The fact that Fenway Sports Group are entrusting Julian Ward with a big spending spree already proves how much they believe in him and Iraola.
Here's hoping that any transfers they make end up improving the Reds' squad, rather than making it worse.
