Liverpool receive SURPRISE offer for rarely-seen £30m star
There may only be a few days left of the winter transfer window but that doesn't mean that Liverpool can't strike a deal or two.
Throughout most of the January transfer window, fans have been begging Arne Slot and Richard Hughes to dip into the market for some reinforcements.
However, up until this point, nothing concrete has been reported and, unless something suddenly happens over the next couple of days, it feels like Slot will stick it out with who he currently has at his disposal.
Although nobody new is likely to come in before deadline day, some exits could still be sanctioned with the futures of Kostas Tsimkas and Andy Robertson still up in the air.
And, speaking of departures, it seems like yet another member of Liverpool's first-team squad could be on their way out.
Liverpool receive surprise transfer offer for Giorgi Mamardashvili
Of all the players in Liverpool's squad, the last position they likely expected to be sent an offer for is their goalkeeping department.
Alisson and Giorgi Mamardashvili have shared the load of being the Reds' starting goalkeeper this term.
Admittedly, Alisson is still Liverpool's number one choice but, due to his many absences this season, the Georgian has had his fair share of game time.
And, even though Liverpool only have two senior goalkeepers among their ranks at the moment, that hasn't stopped a European club from making a bid for Mamardashvili.
That is, according to a report from Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna who shared a fresh update on Mamardashvili's situation via his personal X account.
"Beşiktaş are currently working on several signings across different positions," he wrote.
"A full agreement has been reached with Kostas Tsimikas (Liverpool) and Nuno Tavares (Besiktas).
"The club is expected to choose one of the two within the next 24 to 48 hours. A loan offer has been submitted to Liverpool for Giorgi Mamardashvili: €2 million for 6 months, with an option to extend the loan.
"Beşiktaş are also attempting to sign a top-class number 9 striker."
Liverpool cannot sell Giorgi Mamardashvili under any circumstances
Even though Mamardashvili is Liverpool's back-up 'keeper, he still plays a very important role in Slot's plans.
The Georgian is lined up to be the Reds' starting goalkeeper whenever Alisson chooses to leave or retire.
And, even though he might not be getting as much game time as he wants at the moment, the fact that Alisson is so injury prone has massively played in his favour.
And, since Liverpool chose to sell Caoimhin Kellher in the summer, there isn't really a good enough back-up option for Alisson among Liverpool's ranks aside from the former Valencia man.
Indeed, Freddie Woodman was also brought in but, to be honest, it feels like Armin Pecsi would be more likely to start for the Reds if the opportunity presented itself.
If Besiktas were offering a larger loan fee, it could maybe be something for Liverpool to consider.
But, given his importance to the team and the number of injuries that Alisson has already suffered this term, it would be extremely silly for Liverpool to allow him to exit.
