Liverpool are reportedly ready to pull off an incredible €160m transfer for a world-class midfielder.

Even after recent rebuilds, there’s a strong argument that the Reds still need further midfield additions to truly compete at the highest level.

Modern football is increasingly demanding more and more from players and right now Arne Slot's midfield is devoid of much needed depth.

This is before we eve start to discuss the uncertainty that enshrouds Liverpool's key midfielders. Curtis Jones has a contract expiring in 2027 and he could leave the club this summer.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have failed to extend Ryan Gravenberch's, Dominik Szoboszlai's and Alexis Mac Allister's contracts, which all expire in the summer of 2028.

In light of this, midfield additions are a necessity this summer.

According to Sports Boom, João Neves is at the centre of a blooming transfer saga.

The world class 21-year-old is on a long‑term contract at PSG and the club reportedly values him at around €160 million, a figure that could make him the most expensive midfielder in football if any club meets it.

Yet despite his importance to PSG and his recent contract extension until 2029, elite clubs are prepared to go big to bring him in this summer, which could set the stage for a potential blockbuster move.

Among the clubs said to be tracking him are Liverpool, who see him as a potential solution to ongoing balance issues in their engine room. Scouts are believed to have been present at key Champions League matches this season, watching his ability to control games, circulate possession and break opposition pressing lines, which is exactly what Liverpool are missing in midfield right now.

Signing Neves would represent a transformative move for Liverpool.

At just 21, he is already a world-class midfielder who combines technical intelligence with an extremely high level footballing IQ and tactical intelligence.

Liverpool’s midfield has plenty of energy and work-rate with Szoboszlai and Gravenberch, but Neves brings a level of composure on the ball that allows the team to transition seamlessly from defence to attack.

One of Neves’ standout qualities is his vision and passing range. He can operate as a deep-lying playmaker, picking out long diagonal balls to stretch opponents, or he can link short passes to maintain possession under pressure.

In a Liverpool side that thrives on quick transitions and fluid positional rotations, having a midfielder who can dictate tempo and control the rhythm of games would immediately elevate the team’s attacking efficiency.

Not to mention he is also a very versatile player who has covered full-back for PSG at numerous times throughout his career.

Obviously, the price tag is a huge deterrent, but Richard Hughes has showed he can buy anyone he wants last summer, so why not dream?

The report clearly states Liverpool are ready for a move. So, this is one to watch.
