Liverpool ready massive €100m move to replace Mo Salah
Liverpool could be about to be begin a massive €100m move to replace Mo Salah at the club.
No one wants it to happen, but it is now a very big possibility that the Egyptian could leave Anfield for pastures new. Even as early as the January window.
If that were the case, Liverpool are going to be searching for a replacement for him. Undoubtedly, Richard Hughes already has a shortlist.
On that shortlist will be the name of Antoine Semenyo. However, whether Liverpool get the Ghanaian international is another matter. Right now it's moot who Semenyo wants to play for.
Liverpool and Manchester City are both trying to sign him and activate his £65m release clause. Given how City are competing for the Premier League title with Arsenal, unfortunately from a purely objective point of view they do seem like the more attractive destination.
Liverpool are going through a rebuild. This means that we're not going to see the full potential of this team until a few seasons. Semenyo is in the prime of his career right now.
So, he may be entitled to decide that he wants to play for City rather than Liverpool.
The Reds on the other hand will have to look for a younger alternative and this is something they were ready to do in the summer window.
Back then, L'Equipe reported that Liverpool wanted to sign Bradley Barcola alongside Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak. Barcola is yet to sign a new deal with Paris Saint Germain and the report claimed that the French side would listen to offers in excess of €100m.
Now this was towards the end of the window so Liverpool didn't quite have the time to pull the deal off. Perhaps not even in the finances.
However, if Salah jets off to Saudi Arabia for a lot of money, Liverpool will have cash to spend again and that is when Barcola's name could resurface as a 'surprising' option.
Why might that be?
Well Barcola is traditionally a left-winger by trade. He's right-footed and has spent most of his time playing on the left where he likes to cut in and score goals.
He's very effective at that. Probably one of the most effective in world football.
At the same time though, he's not just a left-winger. He can play across the frontline, including on the right which is why he could be the surprise star to replace Salah.
In his career so far, Barcola has played 32 matches as a right-winger and has 14 assists and five goals in those games. It's an impressive output, particularly when it comes to his creative output.
With Isak and Hugo Ekitike playing through the middle, Liverpool need a winger who can create chances so Barcola makes sense.
Unlike Semenyo, he's also much younger so perhaps he'd be open to being part of a project, if that guarantees him regular playing time.
