Liverpool are preparing a mega offer to sign an exciting superstar.

Even after signing of Jeremy Jacquet in the January window, Liverpool’s need for more reinforcements in the department remains a pressing concern.

That's because the contractual uncertainty surrounding the club's other defenders has made Richard Hughes' job a lot more difficult.

Ibrahima Konate's current deal is expiring at the end of the season. The Frenchman is likely to leave the club at this stage. Although hope remains until the final day, there is a sense this could be a Trent 2.0 situation, especially with Real Madrid lurking in the shadows, which would increase the need for Liverpool to add more bodies on top of Jacquet.

Beyond Konate, both Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk are contracted until 2027. While that may seem distant, top clubs plan their defensive succession years in advance.

Van Dijk, in particular, cannot be expected to anchor the back line indefinitely, and relying on multiple defenders entering the final two years of their contracts at the same time creates risk.

Which is why Liverpool will be in the market for another centre-back.

And it seems like they could go all out to sign a Premier League proven centre-back.

This should not be a surprise. Last summer, Richard Hughes was ready to go big when he needed to bring in a striker and pursued a move for Alexander Isak.

Now in the upcoming summer window the club's sporting director could be ready to pull the trigger on a big move with Liverpool reportedly already preparing a huge offer.

According to sports journalist Sebastien Vidal, Liverpool are preparing a bid for Murillo of Nottingham Forest with a whopping €80m offer being considered.

Although Manchester United are also monitoring the situation.

Tottenham found out the hard way that it's not easy to sign a Forest player last summer. They are tough negotiators but they are also on the brink of potentially being relegated from the Premier League.

Either way an offer of €80m for Murillo is one they surely cannot afford to turn down.

From Liverpool's point of view, it makes sense going for the the 23-year-old because of his experience in the Premier League and because he is someone the club's scouts followed all the way back when he was still playing in Brazil.

Murillo has been playing in a poor Forest side this season, but last season he showed that he is very much capable of being up there as one of the best centre-backs in the league.

He's still so young for a centre-back, so he's still got plenty of time to get even better. At the same age, Van Dijk was still only playing for Celtic.
