Liverpool now know where they stand in chase for £65m forward
Liverpool completed £450m worth of transfer spending last summer.
As part of the incoming deals for new players, several options were added in attack. We saw British record deals for Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak - while Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong were also recruited.
Although Arne Slot has recently changed to a winger-less formation there is a sense that further attacking deals could be concluded in the upcoming transfer windows.
Cody Gakpo could do with some more senior competition - with only Rio Ngumoha behind him the left-wing pecking order. And the ongoing uncertainty over Mohamed Salah’s future currently looms over the club.
Liverpool in transfer hunt for Semenyo
A potential solution to issues on both sides of the attack has been floated with the name of Antoine Semenyo.
The 25-year-old Bournemouth winger is available in January for around £65m once his release clause kicks in - with reports suggesting that fee will drop to around £50m come summer.
And while Liverpool are known to admire the Ghana international right now it appears the Premier League champions are someway down the list in terms of potential destinations.
According to a new report in TEAMtalk, Semenyo is being courted heavily by Tottenham - who are ready to blow apart their wage structure to land the forward - and by Manchester City.
Momentum shifts away from Liverpool
The report states that City remains the best stylistic fit for Semenyo - who scored twice at Anfield in the Premier League on the opening day of the season.
“Liverpool linger close behind, with Arne Slot a known admirer of the forward’s high-pressing attributes,” the report reads.
“The Reds have monitored Semenyo extensively, seeing him as a potential boost amid squad uncertainties, but recent momentum has shifted toward the Manchester clubs and Spurs.”
Time for a Richard Hughes masterclass
Manchester United are also in the race for Semenyo - with it thought the attacker could improve both their No10 and wing-back positions. Liverpool have got some serious work ahead of them in order to re-align this deal.
Hopefully Richard Hughes - who signed Semenyo for Bournemouth back in 2023 for £10m from Bristol City - can get a move over the line once again.
