Liverpool now have the best right-back in the Premier League.

Remember last summer when everyone was angry and worried about Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving on a free transfer. The anger was certainly justified, Alexander-Arnold owed a lot more to the club than in the manner that he left.

However, the worry? Not so much.

Firstly, Alexander-Arnold has been mostly injured in Madrid so far. Meanwhile, Liverpool have dealt well in his absence. Even with frequent injuries to Jeremie Frimpong and a long-term blow to Conor Bradley, it still doesn't feel like Liverpool have missed their former no.66.

Why?

Well, it's because Arne Slot has now unlocked the best right-back in the entire Premier League and in the process very much secured the future of Liverpool.

Dominik Szoboszlai may not enjoy playing as a right-back. He is a midfielder by trade and that is definitely the position where you want him to be playing.

However, it's a position that makes sense for the Hungarian and Liverpool's needs right now.

As a right-back he gets more time on the ball. He is able to see more solutions in front of him and very much play the game like Alexander-Arnold used to.

On top of everything, Szoboszlai has shown himself to be a good defender. One vs one it's very rare that he gets beaten. He is quick and uses his body really well.

The engine that he has also makes him suited to the right-back position. Sure, he won't play in this role forever. He is a midfielder. But right now, there is an argument to be made no one is doing a better job as a right-back not just at Liverpool but in the entire league.

WhoScored's data definitely corroborates that. According their statistical ratings Szoboszlai has the highest average rating among Premier League right-backs who have made at least seven appearances in the position with 7.29 out of 10.

You really can't argue with that. The eye test proves it as well.

Szoboszlai is just clearly better than anyone else right now.
