Liverpool now closing in on DREAM man to replace Arne Slot
Liverpool could have a dream opportunity to replace Arne Slot, and it's getting closer and closer.
Nobody wants this to happen. Right now the club's head-coach is struggling, and the truth is Slot should still be given more time and patience to figure things out.
Liverpool did get the three points over the line against Inter Milan. There's no two ways about it, those three points are a huge result for the Reds. it's the kind of result that will give some of the players a massive boost of confidence.
Slot's methods to tweak the system and make it more defensively resolute have worked. It's not the most entertaining football but at least Liverpool are not losing games anymore.
This isn't the Slot we know. The exciting attacking football we were promised. Ultimately the objective is still to get towards that goal. Whether Slot is the man to do that remains to be seen. He's not quite shown it just yet.
Nonetheless, the Premier League champions should still be given some grace and some patience. It's only if Liverpool's defensive tweak ultimately ends-up failing that the club should seek a replacement for Slot.
When and if that could happen remains to be seen. Slot will be given as much time as possible until it looks like there really is no way of going back for him and his position becomes untenable.
The biggest headache about that would then become who to replace Slot with. Right now in the current market there's no one you could really say with confidence would be able to do a better job than the Dutchman.
Cesc Fabregas is promising at Como but would he leave a club who he is a part-owner of to join Liverpool mid-season? That seems unlikely.
The same for Julian Nagelsmann, who is unlikely to leave his position as Germany's head-coach so close to the World Cup.
Xabi Alonso would be another ideal profile. But he's contracted to Real Madrid. There's no way Liverpool could appoint him right now. But...but....but....
There is a way. There is a slim chance that this dream appointment could now be getting closer.
Alonso suffered another defeat with Real Madrid against Manchester City on Wednesday night. Some reports suggested a defeat could see him lose his job.
This has not happened yet. However, it has put him on the brink of the sack and therefore one step closer to a dream appointment to replace Slot at Liverpool.
If neither Real Madrid nor Liverpool find solutions, then the best scenario would be for Alonso to leave the Spanish side and takeover at Anfield.
Right now, that is a situation that we are definitely closing in on.
