Liverpool midfielder will SAVE the season if Arne Slot finally trusts him
Arne Slot's reign at Anfield is slowly dismantling right now.
For all the success in his first year and for all the excitement of the summer window things have out of the blue started to look very bleak for Liverpool.
Even when the Reds were winning at the start of the season there were legitimate concerns about the nature of those wins. Liverpool were relying on individual brilliance to get them out of trouble.
In reality, Liverpool have not really been able to put in positive performances at all this season. There's not been a single game where the fans could be content.
Perhaps, the victory over Arsenal is the only exception. In that instance and for that one game Liverpool were pretty solid and were able to beat their rivals with a wonderfully taken free-kick goal by Dominik Szoboszlai.
But on the whole things have not been pretty, and with four defeats in a row, results are also starting to catch-up with Slot.
Very abruptly the Liverpool head-coach will now be realising the merciless nature of the media in the United Kingdom. For most of his tenure, he's been the darling of supporters and the media.
However, now he's going to have to answer difficult questions and solve problems that he hasn't really had to solve.
Undoubtedly, the biggest issue stems from Liverpool's build-up play. Right now, it's all over the place and languid and slow. It looks very disjointed and nothing like the team we saw playing last season.
Slot has blamed the fact that teams are playing deeper against the Reds as the main culprit of this. In reality though the bigger issue is the fact that Liverpool are missing a player in Trent Alexander-Arnold who would take risks and make clever progressive passes into the final-third.
Liverpool don't really have players to do that at the moment - except for one.
That one player though has spent most of the season on the bench. Even though he doesn't deserve it.
Curtis Jones has averaged the most progressive passes (10.5 per 90) for Liverpool this season. He's ahead by a country mile. After him it's Andy Robertson with 6.96 per 90 minutes.
Yet despite Jones being a very proficient passer of the ball, Slot doesn't seem to rate him. It's either Alexis Mac Allister or someone else playing over the scouser in the left-sided midfield role.
This needs to change though. Jones could be the answer to Liverpool's problems and he could even save the entire season. Every time he comes on Liverpool look better and more cohesive.
All Slot needs to do is just to trust him and actually give him a platform to flourish.
