Liverpool make approach for sensational Bundesliga attacker
Liverpool have made an approach for one of the brightest young talents in the Bundesliga. That's according to new reports.
The winter transfer window is right around the corner - under a month away, in fact. Liverpool have little choice but to get involved after struggling to find any rhythm this season.
Now, it almost certainly wasn't the initial plan. Liverpool hoped to have built a contending squad in the summer with over £400m going out on new players.
It just hasn't worked out that way and the Reds undoubtedly have areas where they must improve. And must improve quickly, too - there's a real threat of no Champions League football next season if Liverpool can't get it together.
That will send them back into the transfer market and it appears they're not going to waste any time. An approach is in for a player already.
Liverpool move for Yan Diomande
Sky Sports claim Liverpool have made an initial approach for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande. The 19-year-old only moved to Germany in the summer but has increased his reputation over the first half of the campaign.
That has both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur looking at Diomande. However, it's difficult to believe they'd get this one done for January.
For one, it doesn't make much sense to. Diomande will almost certainly play at AFCON for Ivory Coast and any winger Liverpool sign would ideally offer cover and a fresher option to Mo Salah.
We think this is one to watch for the summer, then, rather than the winter. But it's clear that Diomande is a massive talent and one that the Reds want - hence their approach being described as 'very advanced'.
Diomande, who broke through at Leganés last season, may well move to a third club in three seasons. If so, Liverpool are positioning themselves to be that club.
One to absolutely keep an eye on.
