Liverpool are now lining up a move for an extraordinarily talented right-back who could finally replace Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Replacing the Reds' former No.66 was always going to be the most difficult task in Richard Hughes' career.

It's just an impossible job. No matter how poorly Alexander-Arnold has performed at Real Madrid, he was the beating heart of the Reds.

Liverpool have had it easy over the course of the last almost decade with him playing in that right-back position and dominating games.

He was one of a kind. The likes of whom we won't ever see again at Anfield because they only come around once.

Alexander-Arnold would pull the strings and he often won games single-handedly with his sheer genius. He was on his way to becoming a future Liverpool captain until he decided to veer his career into a different direction.

Following his departure, Liverpool have sort of scrambled at trying to replace him without much avail.

Jeremie Frimpong was recruited, however, it has quickly become apparent that he is a much better winger than right-back.

Arne Slot has trusted Conor Bradley when fit, and since his injury he's been playing Dominik Szoboszlai in that role.

But that is just a temporary measure.

Long-term Liverpool need a right-back and they need a player they can trust more than Bradley, who has missed large chuncks of the season almost every single campaign in Liverpool colours.

According to a report from TEAMtalk Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United are all vying for Daniel Banjaqui of Benfica.

According to the report, Liverpool have set sights on Daniel Banjaqui. He is 17-years-old and was only recently given his debut by Jose Mourinho at Benfica.

But he did catch the eye at the U17 World Cup, a tournament where Liverpool's scouts were heavily present and from which tye already signed Mor Talla Ndiaye and Ifeanyi Ndukwe, who both also caught the eye.

Banjaqui is the perfect solution for Liverpool right now to finally replace Alexander-Arnold.

He's a proper flying full-back who loves to bomb up and down the wing. He will bring speed and intensity as well as a brilliant crossing ability that has already seen him contribute to a goal for Benfica's first-team in just his second appearance.

He was used in a bit more of a deeper role for Portugal at the U17 World Cup and showed off his nice passing range - especially in the build-up. Showcasing that he can also be that inverted full-back type which would be massively helpful to the way Arne Slot's wants his full-backs to play.

Obviously as a defender, Banjaqui is also excellent. He is fast and strong in his duels (won 68% of his defensive duels at the World Cup) and on his debut for Benfica's first-team in Liga NOS, he won the most duels (11) and the most tackles (4). He’s the type of defender you don’t really want to come up against as an attacker because he swarms around you and eats up space.

He’s a strong dribbler and he can be effective in the final third. In many ways he reminds you of Nuno Mendes, who is a similar profile on the left.

Knowing how much Julian Ward loved Mendes but was priced out for him, this is a move that makes a lot of sense. Banjaqui does have a steep release clause worth €80m but at this stage of his career, Liverpool could sign him for a lot less as he's only just starting to break through into the first-team.

Ultimately, there are few elite right-backs in world football right now, Banjaqui could be one of them and that's why he is the perfect successor to Alexander-Arnold's throne at Anfield.
