According to a recent report, Liverpool have set their sights on another forward amid Alexander Isak's injury.

It's a difficult time for the club right now. Richard Hughes had such grandiose plans at the start of the season following an exciting and unprecedented summer of investment.

But the tables have turned rapidly. It has become apparent that despite the investment Liverpool simply cannot rebuild the squad over the course of one window.

People forget just how many crucial players left the club over the summer, players who played a vital role in the success of the Premier League victory.

The new players who have come in have the potential to be superstars. But right now they are still settling into a new team and a new way of playing.

Normally this takes a bit of time. Players need that, so there needs to be patience exercised.

On top of everything, Liverpool's situation has been exacerbated by the fact they have had rotten luck. Whether it's injuries or poor refereeing decisions, misfortune has come their way time and time again this season.

The biggest blow right now is undoubtedly what has happened to Isak. A leg fracture means he will likely now be out for two or three months.

The earliest he could possibly be back is perhaps March at best, but probably around early April. He'll miss most of the season and when he does return it will take him time to get back into the best possible shape and form that he can be.

His absence means Liverpool will now have to rely on Hugo Ekitike as the club's only out and out no.9. The Frenchman is brilliant.

But he also needs a rest. Liverpool are also just now one injury to Ekitike away from having another disaster upfront.

It looks like the club is planning on addressing this possible scenario by entering the market and looking to sign a possible Isak replacement for the interim, but also a potential third choice striker.

Given Isak's injury problems, it's not a bad idea for Liverpool to pursue a third striker and according to CaughtOffside, the club are now looking at options in the market.

The report claims that one of the temporary Isak replacements being lined up is Igor Thiago from Brentford, with the club's scouts having been impressed by his performances in the Premier League so far.

Thiago is a strong and tall forward, who is an excellent finisher. At 24-years-old, he's just about entering the prime of his career.

Brentford will be reluctant to lose him though so the club may have a fight on their hands if they want to sign him in January.

Nonetheless, it's an interesting option to consider. Liverpool definitely need more depth in attack now.
