Liverpool line up move to STEAL another Newcastle star
Tensions between Newcastle and Liverpool were at an all-time high over the summer as the Alexander Isak saga lingered on.
Geordies definitely aren't a fan of the Reds at the moment and to be fair the sentiment could be understood. We felt the same way about Chelsea when Fernando Torres buggered off to Stamford Bridge.
Isak is only doing what's best for his career and the reality is that he's way more likely to compete for the biggest trophies in the world at Liverpool than on Tyneside.
At this moment in time, the Reds are a much bigger appeal than Newcastle. There's more history, more success and a better recent track-record that is enough to entice the best players in the world.
This is why Isak may not be the only player Liverpool will lure from Newcastle in the coming years.
There may already be another player on the club's radar.
Obviously, Anthony Gordon is someone who Liverpool like and someone who has strong ties to the club where he spent a few years developing as an academy player.
But Gordon is not the only player who could follow in the footsteps of Isak and break Geordie hearts.
A recent report has claimed that Liverpool are lining up a shortlist for centre-backs at the moment and among the options on the club's radar is Sven Botman.
Now interestingly, Botman was someone the Reds considered around five years ago when there was a centre-back crisis at the club after Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk both got injured.
Botman was playing for Lille at the time after graduating from Ajax's academy. Liverpool kept a close eye on him but in the end never made a move, signing Ibrahima Konate instead.
Botman moved to Newcastle and has established himself as a solid Premier League centre-back with plenty of potential.
He's only 25-years-old, which is very young age for a centre-back and it's no surprise Liverpool consider him as a potential option.
For Botman, the allure of Anfield is going to be an attractive prospect in general. However, the even bigger appeal is perhaps working alongside Van Dijk.
A fellow Dutchman he must look up to the best centre-back in the world who is also the national team captain.
Given the fact that Botman is yet to make an appearance for the senior national team of the Netherlands, he'd also feel a move to Liverpool where he could partner Van Dijk could increase his chances of finally making his debut.
Liverpool's strong Dutch contingent in general with Slot and his backroom staff as well as the plethora of Netherlands stars in the playing squad will also welcome Botman with open arms and vice versa.
So, this is probably something to keep an eye on. Liverpool have followed Botman for a while and perhaps they will soon be ready to steal yet another Newcastle player.
