Liverpool legend's son is now an elite centre-back

Over the years, a lot of former players' sons have come through the academy at Liverpool.

From Jayden Danns to Lewis Koumas and Bobby Clark - these are all household names from the early 2000s in English football.

But they are not the only ones. Djibril Cisse's son is also coming through the ranks at Anfield.

The Frenchman will always be a legend at the club after his contributions in the 2006 FA Cup final and Istanbul in 2005. Cisse was a cult figure and now plays for the club's legend side.

His son, Prince Kobe Cisse plays for Liverpool's U18 side, as well as representing Wales at youth international level - he is eligible through his mother.

Like his father, Prince Kobe started out playing as a forward in Liverpool's ranks. He played that position at U16 level and also when he first came into the U18 side.

Only 17-years-old, this summer he underwent an interesting positional switch. Instead of scoring goals, Cisse's new job has become to prevent them.

During pre-season, the club trialled him as a centre-back and this has since become his new position at U18 level.

He's started all of the games as a centre-back in the U18 Premier League and has produced some solid performances due to his ability on the ball and his reading of the game.

This development is still in its early stages, but it looks like Liverpool are continuing to press ahead with Cisse becoming their new centre-back.

Clearly, the club must envision his role in senior football in that position, and it bodes well for Cisse. Liverpool tend to make these switches when they really believe in a player's potential.

The last time such a notable change was made was when the Reds transitioned Trent Alexander-Arnold into a right-back after playing most of his career in central midfield.

This Cisse experiment reminds us of what the Reds did with the club's former no.66. For Alexander-Arnold that paid dividends giving him an easier route into the first team.

Could the same happen to Cisse?

Well at this moment in time Liverpool do not have a lot of centre-backs, so it's clearly more of a simple pathway than trying to break in as a striker with the likes of Jayden Danns, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak ahead of him in the pecking order.

Obviously, right now he's far away from being recognised at senior level. But if he continues to develop and grows into his role more, he's definitely someone to keep an eye on.

Perhaps in the future he may even follow in his father's footsteps and play in a Liverpool shirt at Anfield. That would definitely be a proud moment for Djibril.
