Liverpool learn price for IDEAL winger signing
Liverpool opted against signing a winger in the summer - a choice they might now be regretting.
While new strikers Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike helped to cover Darwin Nunez's departure and the loss of Diogo Jota, we didn't see anyone come in to replace Luis Diaz and cover Cody Gakpo.
Of course, teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha was introduced to the first-team from the academy, but his development is still ongoing and Arne Slot is particularly calculated with how often he's played.
Furthermore, we've seen a drop-off from Mohamed Salah this season and Federico Chiesa is used in spurts, despite his best efforts on the pitch when given an opportunity to shine. It's entirely plausible that a new winger could be signed in January, or more likely at the end of the season.
There is no shortage of targets and one Premier League star is likely to snapped up in quick time.
Bids rejected for Semenyo
According to The Telegraph, both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur made approaches for Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo in the summer, with the Cherries opting to keep him instead.
Bids worth around £50m were rejected from the two clubs, and since then, it's clear that Semenyo's value will have skyrocketed following his excellent start to the new Premier League season.
Liverpool are one of the clubs linked with him, not just because of how well his profile would suit Slot's style of play, filling the hole left by Luis Diaz, but also because our sporting director Richard Hughes was in charge at Bournemouth when the Ghanian was signed back in 2023.
As such, it is understood that Liverpool might have an advantage over others in securing a move.
Hughes' inside knowledge will be especially useful if Liverpool look to pivot to a winger, since recent reports have claimed that Bournemouth have a release clause in Semenyo's contract, which Hughes was likely party to prior to his move to join Liverpool's executive team.
Right now, it's not publicly known what the clause is, although the rejected bids from this summer give us at least the knowledge that it's likely to be higher than £50m, so getting a bargain isn't likely.
Nonetheless, the good thing about the clause is that Liverpool will not be required to negotiate on a fee if they meet the required amount. Beyond that, it's just about shoeing off the competition for him.
Since the 25-year-old is comfortable playing on either side of the pitch, he'd be the ideal signing for the Reds, although money might be tight in the upcoming windows after last summers splurge, and the defence currently needs to be prioritised over yet another attacking recruit.
If Hughes thinks it's too good an opportunity to miss, however, then Semenyo would be the kind of player that Liverpool would go all-in for. As if we needed a reminder of his talents after last season's returns, he's started off this latest campaign in lightning quick speed. He's on for a record year.
