Liverpool learn of insane €85m price drop on long-term target
The rebuild of Liverpool’s defence is well underway.
Giovanni Leoni, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong have all been added in the last 18 months, and a deal was announced in February that will bring Jeremy Jacquet to Anfield.
The future of Arne Slot’s backline seems to be in good hands, but the uncertain futures of Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Andrew Robertson have left many feeling that Liverpool still need another defender.
Several players have been linked with Merseyside moves over the past few weeks, and Richard Hughes will be assessing all the options available to the club, but one former target has just had his price slashed significantly.
Long-time target available at crazy cut-price
Liverpool have long been linked with potential defensive options, mostly owing to Virgil van Dijk’s age, and a number of Europe’s top talents have been on the club’s radar for a while.
One of the names that was heavily linked with Liverpool in the summer of 2024 was Benfica’s Antonio Silva.
Now, two years after being linked with a €100 million move for the Portugal international, the Reds have learned of a shocking price reduction for the 22-year-old.
According to transfer insider Florian Plettenberg, Silva could be available for €15-25 million this summer, as he enters the final year of his deal.
Silva has found himself in and out of Benfica’s first-team since he was first linked with a Liverpool switch but has still impressed when given the opportunity this season.
If a deal could be agreed on the lower end of Plettenberg’s estimation, it would represent an €85 million price drop from the fee the Reds were reported to be considering just two years ago.
Plettenberg also pointed out that Benfica are keen to extend Silva’s deal beyond 2027, but if Liverpool act fast they could convince the defender to move away from Portugal this summer.
Silva would represent an exciting prospect in Liverpool’s defence, but also a cost-effective option able to back up Van Dijk, Leoni and Jacquet next season.
