Liverpool in transfer shootout for France midfielder with Man Utd
Liverpool could be set for a midfield refit next summer.
The Premier League champions have been relying on the same options for a few seasons now.
Key players like Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister are no longer producing on a regular basis while there is an uncertain contract situation to solve over Curtis Jones.
He is out of contract in 2027 and could well be sold if Richard Hughes cannot get a renewal over the line soon. That opens up the possibility of adding a new senior midfield option and Khephren Thuram of Juventus is emerging as an option.
Liverpool in chase for Khephren Thuram
First linked with Liverpool back in 2023 the France international ended up moving to Turin in 2024. The 25-year-old has since established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A but ahead of the summer window opening he finds his future in doubt.
Juve’s ability to hold onto their star players looks set to depend on their participation in next season’s Champions League - and right now that isn’t guaranteed.
Thuram and other reported Liverpool targets - such as Gleison Bremer and Pierre Kalulu could be put up for sale as the Italian giants cut their cloth accordingly.
According to Tutto Juve Liverpool are among THREE Premier League clubs in the hunt for Thuram along with Manchester United and Newcastle.
Man Utd and Newcastle want Khephren Thuram
“Manchester United and Liverpool are monitoring the French midfielder,” the report claims.
“Making the situation even more delicate for the Old Lady is Newcastle United, ready to intervene if the massive sale of Sandro Tonali were to materialize.”
And let’s make the assumption that at this stage of his career Thuram will be targeting a club who can give him Champions League football - a prospect not assured at Juve.
“Thuram's future will depend not only on foreign offers, but also on qualification for the 2026-2027 Champions League,” the report reads.
Man Utd remain the hunt with Liverpool for a place in the Premier League top five with Newcastle dropping further behind.
So we could see a straight shootout between the Red Devils and Liverpool for Thuram - provided Arne Slot guides the Premier League champions back to the Champions League.
