Liverpool have won the Premier League title against the backdrop of continued contract uncertainty.

Much of the season was played with Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold under scrutiny with their deals all due to expire in summer 2025.

Happily for the Reds, Salah and Van Dijk have agreed new deals, extending their time at the club up to 2027. Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, has opted to run down his deal. He is expected to move to Real Madrid at the end of the season.

But it’s not going to get any easier for sporting director Richard Hughes. Next up is Ibrahima Konate.

He is believed to be seeking a massive pay rise to remain at the club beyond 2026 - while Caoimhin Kelleher and Andy Robertson are also out of contract at the end of next season.

Arne Slot out of contract in two years

After that there will be negotiations required for Luis Diaz, Curtis Jones, Conor Bradley, Harvey Elliott and several more players out of contract in 2027.

But perhaps the most pressing issue for the Reds to solve is Arne Slot. The Liverpool head coach agreed a three-year deal when moving from Feyenoord last summer. And that original deal now only has two years to run.

If Slot were a player then talks over a new deal would surely be under way. He has catapulted himself right into the top category of managers with his work this season, building on what he already achieved in the Netherlands.

Not only is Slot’s contract duration short in comparison to other Premier League managers, there are reportedly as many as six of them better paid than the Liverpool boss.

After this inaugural season, ending with the Premier League title, Slot’s hand will have been strengthened in any mooted negotiations.

Arne Slot contract ALARM

And Liverpool have been WARNED that the situation is going to need to be resolved soon. Slot clearly enjoys working at Liverpool but he will know his value.

It’s not going to be long until other top European clubs will be sniffing around so long as his long-term future isn’t shored up.

“There have been whispers for weeks in the Netherlands that the Reds are ready to offer Slot a new deal and that would be no surprise,” writes Lewis Steele in the Daily Mail.

“If Slot is allowed to get to this time next year without signing a new deal, what is to stop the elite clubs on the continent making a play to get him?”

If Liverpool had any doubts about Slot’s suitability for the job, then he has blown them all away in his first season in charge. Now it’s time to clear the decks in order to make sure he is the next key figure who pledges his future to the club.
