Liverpool HIDING an incredible gem no one has heard of
There's an incredible gem at Liverpool's academy who nobody has heard of yet but who could be very special.
The Reds' academy is one of the strongest in England. Few could compete with the production line that Liverpool have had over the last few decades, and years.
Jarell Quansah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones are just some of the academy graduates who have become England internationals.
There's also Welsh internationals and Premier League stars like Neco Williams and Harry Wilson.
But among the most impressive resume of the academy is its production of goalkeepers. Liverpool have an incredible track record of producing elite shot-stoppers.
Just take a look at the last few years. Caoimhin Kelleher has become one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League. Peter Gulacsi is one of the best in the Bundesliga. Kamil Grabara is following up behind him. Vitezslav Jaros is on loan at first-choice keeper at Ajax.
In the academy we have the likes of Armin Pecsi, who is a Golden Boy nominee and Kornel Misciur, who is regarded as a massive prospect coming through.
But they are not alone.
Last weekend, Liverpool took on Stoke City in the U18 Premier League and for the first-time DJ Bernard was given an opportunity to debut in the league.
The 17-year-old is an England U15 international and he is very highly rated. Last year, he actually participated in training with the club's legend side and caught the eye of observers with his brilliant reflexes.
Bernard showcased that against Stoke as well, making vital interventions and making sure his side were only 2-0 down, allowing them to mount an incredible comeback.
The 17-year-old has a tremendous size considering his age. He is already physically well developed and has strong arms that are able to parry shots away with power and conviction.
But what stood out about him was not only his shot-stopping skills but his other qualities that were very Alisson esque.
Bernard is an extremely quick goalkeeper. He was very quick to come off his line and did really well to close the angles against the attackers in one vs one situations.
In that game, he made three interceptions and 10 recoveries, which are very strong numbers for a goalkeeper and highlight his ability to play off his line.
Due to his size, he was also very comfortable gathering the ball and winning duels in the air.
Then there was also his distribution. Bernard was extremely confident on the ball. He didn't misplace a single pass, completing 22 of his attempts.
Impressively, he had a brilliant range on him, able to kick the ball really far towards the opposition's half from goal-kicks and his powerful technique was extremely effective in helping Liverpool instigate quick transitions and get up the field at a very high speed.
In total, Bernard attempted eight long passes and completed all of them, which is pretty unheard of for a goalkeeper and that is why he seems like an incredible gem.
No one is really talking about Bernard yet. But based on his showing the club could be hiding a talent with elite potential. Someone who could follow in the footsteps of Liverpool's goalkeeping traditions.
DJ Bernard. Remember the name. And remember you read about him here first.
