Liverpool could sign their next Trent Alexander-Arnold and they have a golden chance to do it.

It's becoming increasingly more obvious that Richard Hughes is going to have to address the right-back situation at the club.

Liverpool thought they have solved the departure of their no.66 with the arrival of Jeremie Frimpong. However, it's becoming apparent that Hughes may need to bring in another right-back.

For a lot of this season, Arne Slot has used Dominik Szoboszlai in the right-back position. Even when Conor Bradley and Frimpong were both available.

Both of them may end up being key players for Liverpool but neither have the best injury record which necessitates Liverpool moving into the market to sign someone else instead.

In an ideal scenario, Liverpool would probably like to bring in a right-back who has a similar profile to Alexander-Arnold, even if that is rare.

There are some players though who do have similar profiles and who Liverpool could look to bring in so that they have an alternative option who offers something they once had when the now Real Madrid star was at Anfield.

One of those options is Givairo Read. The Feyenoord defender was actually given his debut by Arne Slot in senior football back in 2024.

He's come a long way since establishing himself as a first-choice right-back at the Dutch side and catching the eye in the Champions League and the Europa League.

Read is also a Liverpool fan, and he has admitted this himself which gives Liverpool a golden opportunity to pursue him.

Only 19-years-old, he's not going to be the finished article if Liverpool pursue him but in terms of his profile there are a lot of similarities to his strengths in comparison to Alexander-Arnold.

Like the former Liverpool right-back Read likes to provide crosses into the box and gets a lot of assists, he has averaged four crosses per 90 minutes in the Eredivisie this season.

He's got great technique for a defender and can spray passes left and right, making the long switches that characterised Alexander-Arnold during his time at the club.

On top of that, the best thing about Read is that he's also a great defender. He's solid in one vs one duels and has locked up some very good wingers already in his career.

Having shown his quality in European competitions, he's ready to make the next step and Hughes would be smart to try to lure him to Liverpool.
