Liverpool have a NEW midfielder
Liverpool have an exciting 'new' midfielder at the club who can be now considered as a serious option.
It does feel very ironic to talk about a lack of depth at Anfield after the summer the club had. It was a record amount of money to spend in a single window for the Reds.
But while everyone is focused on all the money that was spent and the new players that came with it, many are forgetting that a fair few players also left the club.
In fact there were more players going out of the door than in through the doors at Anfield, so naturally the club's depth is always going to get worse.
What we have right now is a very young team and a team that Arne Slot is struggling to piece together to his liking. That's because there's no balance but that could change with the emergence of a player who almost feels like a new signing.
It's crazy to say but against Tottenham Trey Nyoni made his Premier League debut for Liverpool. The young midfielder has played for the Reds in a fair few competitions but that was his first outing in the league.
And it shows a massive change of heart from Slot, who had previously refrained from using Nyoni in competitive matches like that Spurs game.
Slot's willingness to put him in makes us feel like he may be considering Nyoni as more of a serious option, which means Liverpool might have a new midfielder to consider.
In this sense, Nyoni could almost be like a new signing, and he's definitely a profile that's needed in a midfield that has very little depth.
With the new diamond formation Slot's using, he's pretty much having to play all his midfielders all at once.
That means he needs alternative options and Nyoni becomes a really mouldable and flexible option because of his ability to play in multiple roles.
He's probably the best in a deep-lying creator role playing either Ryan Gravenberch's role on the left or Alexis Mac Allister's position on the right of midfield.
But he can play as a more advanced midfielder and has done so during a few times under Slot, especially in pre-season last year and also at times this year.
Liverpool realise that Nyoni is a massive talent and there's no denying his Premier League debut is a massive step for him in his status within the first-team.
With Dominik Szoboszlai ruled out against Wolverhampton due to suspension, Nyoni is bound to be involved in that game as well to some capacity.
In the process, Slot may discover he doesn't need to spend as much as he might have first though, Nyoni could easily be a solid and reliable option for him in the middle of the park.
