Liverpool handed chance to recoup ENTIRE Florian Wirtz transfer fee

Liverpool have been given the chance to get back every penny from their Florian Wirtz transfer fee. But is it worth doing?

Liverpool shocked everyone in football this year when they signed Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. Wirtz was one of the most in-demand players in the game and everyone expected him to land at Bayern Munich.

If that failed for whatever reason, Manchester City were willing to offer him a lot of money to head there. Liverpool weren't in the race - at least, no one thought they were.

But the Reds pushed to sign Wirtz and convinced him that Anfield was the place to be. He picked the Reds, binning off Bayern after City removed themselves from the running.

The German then became Liverpool's first-ever nine-figure signing. £100m guaranteed and potentially £117m if all add-ons were met.

It was a massive outlay, though. Literally unlike anything we'd seen before from the club, even if the Alexander Isak deal would eventually eclipse it.

But now the Reds have a legitimate chance to get all that money back. Should they take it?

Mo Salah's future

The i Paper reports that there is strong interest in Mo Salah over a January transfer. They're hoping for a 'cut price' deal, though that would be compared to the £200m they offered up in 2023.

Salah, after all, will have another year left on his deal after this season and Liverpool do not have to sell. The question is whether they'd rather take the money at this stage.

There's an argument that they should. This has turned into a transitional season, even if it wasn't supposed to be, and if the Reds aren't challenging for honours, the value in Salah is with a sale.

You sell the player, get an incredible amount of money, and use it to fine-tune your rebuild. That's the plan on paper, anyway. And it's one that almost certainly comes to fruition if Salah wants the move.

At the same time, this is Mo Salah and no one in the team is playing well. There's a sense that no one should really be judged because of that - once the system clicks with this group, everyone should suddenly look better and that might see Salah return to the form of last season.

But do Liverpool believe that could happen? If not, then selling Salah to recoup the money spent on Wirtz will likely appeal to them.

It's offers flexibility to develop the squad further, while also allowing for a reshaping of the attack around the German. It'll certainly tempt Liverpool.

But only if we are talking around £100m. Otherwise, Liverpool are better served banking on Salah's return to form over the course of his contract.
