Liverpool handed boost in pursuit for ‘exceptional’ ace
Liverpool have finally found themselves in a decent run of form after what's been a season filled with turmoil.
The Reds have been questioned across the board and at times, fans have even wondered whether Arne Slot is the right man to take the Anfield outfit forward.
These assumptions were obviously a bit full-on for someone who won the Premier League title last term, but, in reality, you can see why fans demand nothing but perfection, especially after their summer of spending.
Of course, the fact that Liverpool's new signings are all starting to gel has helped moved things on a bit, but, that hasn't stopped players from being linked with an Anfield switch in both the January and summer transfer windows.
Liverpool have moved a step closer to signing Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace
Adam Wharton's future has been one of the most talked about things in England over the last season or so.
The young Englishman is well on his way to being named in the Three Lions' World Cup squad this summer despite the amount of competition in Thomas Tuchel's ranks.
Wharton may not have been as impressive in the 2025-26 season as he was last term but that doesn't mean that the interest in him has died down.
And, since his future has been discussed, Liverpool have been edging closer to making a move, and now, it feels like his transfer has never been closer.
As per an update from TEAMtalk, Palace 'have accepted' that Wharton is going to exit Selhurst Park at the end of the season.
Palace have an 'understanding' with the Englishman to stay in south London until the end of the term but that hasn't stopped clubs such as Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool from 'keeping tabs' on the midfielder.
The Reds see him as a 'long term option' for their engine room despite already having Ryan Gravenberch.
Palace are set to demand a massive £65 million for their midfielder, but, since Marc Guehi has already left and Jean Philippe-Mateta also looks to be on his way out, it's clear to see why Steve Parish wants a big-money fee for the 21-year-old.
This acceptance from Palace moves Liverpool closer to signing him, and, even though there's likely to be plenty of competition, it would be money well spent.
Adam Wharton is the perfect player for Liverpool to chase
For a couple of years now, it's felt like Wharton has been the Reds' number one target for midfield.
As mentioned, they do have Gravenberch among their ranks who has really come into his own, but, he can't play every game.
Wharton has been described as an "exceptional" player by Micah Richards and, to be honest, it's clear that Wataru Endo is no longer Premier League quality.
Indeed, Slot does have some younger options among his ranks such as James McConnell and Stefan Bajcetic, but, at the moment, it's unclear whether they'll fulfil their potential.
The transfer of the Englishman would show that Liverpool really mean business and would certainly propel them towards the Premier League title next term.
