Liverpool forward told time is right for move

Liverpool made big changes in their front line over the summer transfer window.

We saw British record deals conducted for Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak - while Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong were also brought on board.

Those arrivals meant several Premier League title-winning forwards had to depart - with Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez leading those changes.

Players on the fringe also left - with Ben Gannon-Doak helping the club bank a very useful profit following his move to Bournemouth.

Liverpool could ship out young players

But there could be even further changes in January - as Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes set about managing minutes in the squad.

A recent move to a wingerless formation has meant fewer opportunities for younger wide men - with Rio Ngumoha in particular struggling for game time.

He is not the only homegrown winger who has had a lack of first-team minutes this season however - with Trent Kone-Doherty also playing infrequently.

Trent Kone-Doherty tipped for first loan

The Irishman is at a crucial stage of his development - having played for the first team in the EFL Cup against Crystal Palace - but needs senior minutes rather than the game time he’s been afforded in Premier League 2 and UEFA Youth League fixtures.

The 19-year-old is the subject of interest from elsewhere ahead of the winter window opening - according to a report in the Athletic.

“This could, however, be an ideal window for 19-year-old Trent Kone-Doherty to make his first loan move as clubs continue to monitor his progress when he represents Liverpool in the UEFA Youth League and during under-21 games,” the report reads.

The time is right for Trent Kone-Doherty to move on loan

Kone-Doherty has had a memorable UEFA Youth League campaign - scoring three times in six appearances - and would certainly benefit from minutes elsewhere at senior level.

With Slot not using natural wingers right now - and Cody Gakpo, Rio Ngumoha, Florian Wirtz and Federico Chiesa ahead of him in the pecking order - maybe it’s the right time for Kone-Doherty to make a move on loan.
