Liverpool forward set for SHOWDOWN talks over future move
Liverpool have got several top forwards emerging through the club’s academy system.
Jayden Danns of course has already made his big first-team breakthrough but needs to rebuild match fitness after a difficult spell due to injury.
Then there is Joshua Sonni-Lambie - the 18-year-old who seemingly cannot stop scoring for the Premier League U18 side right now.
Don’t forget Will Wright - the highly-rated teenager brought in from Salford City last summer. Wright, 18, is also working his way back to fitness following a bad injury - scoring once and assisting two more against Arsenal in Premier League 2 last week.
And the Reds have also got an exciting international forward at their disposal in the shape of Keyrol Figueroa.
Keyrol Figueroa lighting up youth and academy ranks
The USA U19 sharpshooter is a son of Honduras and Wigan Athletic legend Maynor Figueroa and has scored 10 goals in only 11 outings for Liverpool’s Premier League 2 side this season.
He has been tipped to make a senior breakthrough soon - sitting on the bench for Arne Slot’s first team back in the autum for a EFL Cup assignment against Crystal Palace.
Figueroa, 19, might have to wait a little longer before making the step up as Slot has been reluctant to blood young talents so far this term.
However there are big decisions to be made at international level for the young forward - as Honduras have got plans to bring him over from the United States.
The Honduran Football Federation (FHH) has recently appointed a new sporting director in Spaniard Francis Hernandez.
He succeeded in convincing the likes of Lamine Yamal and Dean Huijsen in choosing Spain ahead of Morocco and The Netherlands respectively during his time in the Spanish football federation.
And one of Hernandez’s first tasks according to Legión Catracha is to convince Figueroa to throw his lot in with Honduras.
Honduras want Keyrol Figueroa
Keyrol was born in the Central American country before moving with his family to England during his Premier League career.
Owing to the time father Maynor subsequently spent in MLS Keyrol has been in the USMNT ranks at various age groups so far throughout his international career.
But Honduras want to change all that - with Hernandez set to jet in for showdown talks with the young forward.
“Francis Hernandez’s first big challenge,” the report reads.
“Just as he convinced Lamine Yamal and Dean Huijsen to play for Spain, Keyrol Figueroa must be a priority since there is no one with Honduran blood currently playing in Honduras with his level of training.”
The report is picked up by Honduran journalist Julio Cruz - who confirms the details about the sporting director’s scheduled meeting in England.
Honduras meeting to be scheduled with Figueroa
“Francis Hernández, the new sporting director of the Honduran national teams, is already aware of Keyrol Figueroa’s situation, and once the new head coach is appointed, they will schedule a meeting with him in England to try to convince him to play for Honduras,” he writes.
“Among his various projects, Hernández will be looking for more Hondurans who are playing abroad and hold dual nationality.”
Figueroa is finding himself very much a man in demand even at this early stage of his career.
Liverpool have got a prodigious goalscorer on their hands and they should take steps to ensure he is convinced to continue his club career on Merseyside.
