Liverpool fly out delegation as they accelerate €100m transfer
Richard Hughes is stepping up his efforts in the transfer market.
After the chaos of what has unfolded this season, Liverpool are in need of reinforcements.
This will come as a surprise to many looking in from the outside. Sure, £450m was spent on new arrivals but there were also so many departures, who have not been properly replaced.
There's still a Jarell Quansah void in the squad, with Liverpool's centre-back department having dwindled due to his departure and Giovanni Leoni's unfortunate injury.
There's also the big looming void on the left-wing, where Luis Diaz was never really properly replaced.
Liverpool are now lacking in depth because of those decisions. They desperately need an injection of speed upfront.
So, who could they go for? There's Antoine Semenyo. He has a release clause that's around £65m. It's a pretty decent price for a Premier League established player.
He's a player who has performed to a high standard at Bournemouth and has caught the eye with exactly the elements that made Luis Diaz so great at Anfield.
Semenyo is an excellent presser, he's quick and he has a brilliant one vs one ability that makes him completely unpredictable.
However, he's also being sought after by Manchester City and Arsenal. Right now given the state Liverpool are in, you would not bet in favour of the Reds winning that transfer race.
Fortunately, Hughes seems to already have an alternative plan and this one could be even better.
TEAMtalk are reporting that Liverpool flew an entire delegation over to Leipzig as they look to accelerate a move for Yan Diomande.
The 19-year-old RB Leipzig star scored a hat-trick and dazzled onlookers with an electric performance. Already Leipzig are believed to want at least €100m for his services.
That's a steep figure for someone who has only played 25 senior career matches. However, it's a figure that is well worth it for Liverpool.
Diomande is a generational player. Sometimes you don't need a big sample size to spot talent. Sometimes you can see when a player has something special, something different about him and with Diomande it's clear as night and day.
His speed combined with his two-footedness and his ability to influence the game in the final third makes him an incredible player.
He's the kind of prospect who could go on to become even better than Semenyo, perhaps one of the best in his position in the world.
For that kind of talent, €100m is a bargain and it looks like Liverpool see it that way too, given they are now flying out an entire delegation to watch him. The club only does this for players they are seriously interested in.
