The injury of Alexander Isak has blown a hole in Liverpool’s season.

Isak was injured in the process of scoring his second Premier League goal of the season - against Tottenham last weekend.

The 26-year-old suffered a devastating lower leg injury - including a fractured fibula - and he is not expected to be available for the Premier League champions for at least three months.

In the meantime Arne Slot will turn to Hugo Ekitike as his leading man up front - while Federico Chiesa and Florian Wirtz could also fill in at the centre of the attack.

Liverpool need an Isak replacement

Having paid £125m to Newcastle for Isak on transfer deadline day - this deal is one that is truly waiting to get going.

The Sweden international has only managed three goals overall since joining from the Geordies - and he was short of match fitness when he swapped St. James’ Park for Anfield.

It feels like we will be waiting a long time yet to see the best of Isak - and the Reds are going to have to find solutions. One option available to Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes is to recruit a new No9 in the winter window.

Liverpool want Goncalo Ramos

While it’s unlikely that Liverpool will spend big on a new forward in January it’s been reported that the Reds may move for an intriguing loan option to cover Isak’s absence.

Caught Offside is reporting that a six-month loan deal for Paris Saint-Germain’s Goncalo Ramos is being looked at. The 24-year-old isn’t always a start for PSG and may welcome the additional first-team minutes ahead of the FIFA World Cup next summer.

Goncalo Ramos will slot in seamlessly

“One intriguing alternative under consideration is a surprise six-month loan move for Gonçalo Ramos of Paris Saint-Germain,” the report reads.

“Liverpool see Ramos as a potential short-term solution who could slot in seamlessly, offering pressing intensity and penalty-box instincts while Isak recovers.”

Portugal international Ramos joined the Parisians from Benfica back in 2023 - going on to win the treble last season. He comes with incredible goalscoring prowess - and has been on the radar of Liverpool recruiters for at least a year now.
