'Unacceptable': Arne Slot WARNED over Liverpool job

Liverpool are reeling from a sequence of six defeats in seven matches.

The latest blow came on Wednesday night - when Arne Slot’s side suffered a humiliating home defeat against Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup.

It’s been a dramatic turnaround in form for the Premier League champions - who were imperious last term as they marched towards the title.

But Slot’s side have struggled with injuries - with key players like Alisson Becker, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexander Isak all absent - and there has been trouble in integrating £450m-worth of new signings.

Arne Slot contract extends to 2027

Isak hasn’t yet hit the ground running while other new faces - like Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz haven’t made an impact.

Liverpool’s shocking run of form - featuring defeats against Palace, Chelsea, Manchester United and Brentford in the top flight and Galatasaray in the Champions League - has led to speculation that they may part ways with head coach Slot.

The Dutchman did so well in winning the title at the first time of asking - but has big questions to answer for the first time in his Liverpool career.

With a contract extending only to 2027 - and no renewal on the horizon right now - it could be decided to end his stint and move on with a new manager.

However, that line of thinking has been refuted in a new report from TBR Football, which claims both the club’s hierarchy and playing staff are currently putting on a united front regarding Slot’s future.

Recent run 'bordering on unacceptable'

“Club sources insist that there are no doubts about Arne Slot’s future at this point, despite the loss to Crystal Palace and their exit from the League Cup,” a report reads.

“They acknowledge the record is mightily poor, losing six out of seven games is bordering on unacceptable, but this is the first time that anyone could call Slot into question.

“Along with the club’s hierarchy, the dressing room still have firm faith in their Dutch manager, which means his job remains ‘very safe’ for now.

“As well as the hierarchy being behind him, the squad is too; to this point, nothing is coming from the players’ side either, which is a really strong indication that Slot is very safe to this point.

“Let’s not be naive to think that the club’s hierarchy are not listening and taking the pulse around the club, but as said, there is nothing to suggest that they are doing anything but backing him.”

Arne Slot needs big turnaround

It is interesting to note that club sources are saying that the 47-year-old’s recent results are almost “unacceptable”.

Clearly there needs to be a turnaround in form, performances and results, but right now it appears that trust has been placed in Slot by sporting director Richard Hughes to turn this around.
