Ryan Gravenberch broke a record as Liverpool beat Everton 2-1. The Dutchman was simply sensational at Anfield.

Liverpool didn't make it easy for themselves but they found the three points at Anfield on Saturday. That's been the story of their season, of course.

The Reds have won every game since the penalty shoot out defeat to Crystal Palace in the Community Shield. None of them have been routine, however - and it wasn't here.

Liverpool raced into a 2-0 lead, as they've typically done this season. But Everton came back strong in the second half as Arne Slot's team wilted.

An Idrissa Gana Gueye goal made things difficult for the final half hour, as the Toffees enjoyed a lot of possession and a lot of the territory. Still, Liverpool got over the line and the poor second half certainly shouldn't make people forget about the brilliant first half.

One player was a standout here: Ryan Gravenberch. The Dutchman broke a record as he shone.

Ryan Gravenberch in the derby

Gravenberch was absolutely exceptional, particularly in the first half. Of course, the headline here is that he scored the opener and then grabbed the assist for the second.

It was a sensational goal, too - a strike very few players could pull off. With the goal and assist, Gravenberch became the youngest Liverpool player to both do both in a Merseyside derby (per OptaJoe).

But it would be wrong to suggest that 'all' Gravenberch did was those two moments. He won five tackles in the match - no other Liverpool player managed more than two.

Only Everton's James Garner managed more defensive contributions than Gravenberch, too. Virgil van Dijk was the sole player to complete more passes on top of it all - a brilliantly-rounded display.

There's no question that Gravenberch was one of the best midfielders around last season. This season, however, he does appear to have moved up a level.

It's been a magical start to the campaign and long may it continue.
