Richard Hughes moves in for contract talks with THREE key midfielders
Liverpool are reported to be in contract talks with several midfield stars.
It’s previously been claimed that sporting director Richard Hughes was seeking to tie up deals for Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Both were signed in summer 2023 as part of a big midfield overhaul - and have grown in prominence over the last year in particular.
Gravenberch, 23, was outstanding as the Reds claimed the Premier League title in 2024/25 - with talk now focussed on extending the Dutchman’s deal beyond 2028.
Like Gravenberch, Szoboszlai is out of contract in 2028 and due to his form will be entitled to ask for a lot more than his current reported pay packet of £120k per week.
Dom, Macca and Grav getting new deals
And now it’s been confirmed that talks have been opened between the club and another member of the 2023 midfield intake.
Alexis Mac Allister, 26, is also out of contract in 2028 and has been on the radar of Real Madrid in recent transfer windows.
Although he has been short of his best form, Liverpool look like they will move to protect the Argentina international’s transfer value with a new deal.
Rather than risking the No10 running down his deal and potentially leaving on a free the club are moving quickly to shore up a new deal.
Talks are underway confirms Steele
“With them two plus Mac Allister, there’s talks underway, very preliminary talks I’d add to that point,” says Lewis Steele.
“Liverpool are keen to extend all three of those deals. We know what happens if you leave it too late as we’ve seen with Trent Alexander-Arnold. All three [aforementioned] players love playing for Liverpool.
“But what’s stopping them when Real Madrid president Florentino Perez gets on the phone in two year’s time? So Liverpool will be wanting to tie them down on 5, 6, 7-year contracts.”
Szoboszlai entitled to mammoth pay rise
Liverpool’s renewals for the aforementioned trio are not going to come cheap. Szoboszlai could be moving into the £300k per week pay bracket based on his performances and what his peers are earning at other clubs.
And Gravenberch and Mac Allister surely won’t be far off that in their demands - given their experience and title-winning quality.
