Pep Guardiola call to decide Arne Slot future
It’s been a difficult second season at Liverpool for Arne Slot.
The Dutchman got off to the best possible start as head coach - winning the Premier League title in his first season in charge. But amid wholesale changes at Anfield the landscape is very different these days.
Slot sees his Liverpool side struggling just to re-qualify for the Champions League via their league place.
Although the Anfield club are still fighting for titles in the Champions League and FA Cup a review is expected to be conducted over Slot’s performance at the end of the season.
Under contract until 2027 a parting of the ways could be nonetheless on the cards - with Xabi Alonso waiting in the wings.
And what next for Slot?
Arne Slot future depends on Pep Guardiola
Well the future of Pep Guardiola could have a major bearing on the 47-year-old’s next role. Transfer journalist Mounir Boualin - for Transfermind - claims that a managerial merry-go-round could involve the Manchester City manager, Vincent Kompany and Slot.
Although Pep is under contract for another year he could leave at the end of the current campaign.
And Bayern head coach Kompany is primed to take over at the Etihad - where he starred as club captain. If that were to occur then Slot emerges as an option to replace the Belgian at the Allianz Arena.
“I heard that a German club is already cautiously inquiring about Slot’s situation,” he said.
“If Liverpool and Slot were to part ways after this season, then this Bundesliga club is certainly an option.
“Perhaps Pep Guardiola leaves Manchester City, and then Vincent Kompany could come into the picture in Manchester. Then it is quite possible that Bayern Munich ends up with Slot.”
Ajax want Arne Slot too
Other links recently have suggested that Slot is on the radar for Ajax. Jordi Cruyff is the new technical director in Amsterdam and is understood to see Slot or Erik ten Hag as the outstanding Dutch candidates for the head coach role.
Right now Slot remains in the Anfield dugout. But unless results and performances pick up he could be at either Ajax or Bayern next season.
