Liverpool star has loan deal cut short

Liverpool concluded several outbound loan deals over the summer transfer window.

And it’s fair to say not all of them are working out optimally. At Ajax for example the fate of departed head coach John Heitinga is set to have a big impact on Vitezslav Jaros and midfielder James McConnell.

Both were requested by ex-Liverpool assistant Heitinga when he joined the Amsterdam club. But he was sacked after only 15 matches - with it now speculated that McConnell’s loan deal could be ended early.

And then there’s the case of Harvey Elliott.

The playmaker joined Aston Villa on a one-season loan deal with an obligation to buy for £35m at the end of the season if he played 10 games.

But the 22-year-old has been frozen out by Unai Emery and it doesn’t appear likely that he makes the 10 games required for a permanent deal.

Owen Beck back at Liverpool

Another Liverpool player who was sent on loan in the summer is left-back Owen Beck.

With Andy Robertson and Milos Kerkez ahead of him in the pecking order - and Kostas Tsimikas also on the books - it was decided that a spell on loan at Derby County would benefit the 23-year-old.

But Beck has suffered several injury setbacks - with it now confirmed that he will return to Liverpool following surgery.

Beck will come back stronger

"I feel really sorry for Becky,” manager John Eustace told BBC Radio Derby.

“It's been a really difficult time for him.

"Having worked with him at Blackburn, to bringing him to the football club this season was a great success from the recruitment side for sure to be able to get a player of that quality here and to showcase him over the course of the season everyone was excited for that.

"But this is all part of his learning and development, we a really sorry for him but he will come back stronger."

Beck had been out since the start of the season with a hamstring injury before making a return at Premier League 2 level with the Rams on November 11. But the Welshman lasted only 40 minutes before having to be replaced due to injury.

And he’s not the only left-back to suffer a torrid loan spell this season - with Kostas Tsimikas well down the Roma pecking order and unlikely to earn himself a permanent move to the Serie A giants.
