Awful Liverpool race to equal 47-game feat
Liverpool have now equalled a 47-game feat already this season. It's turning into an absolute disaster for Arne Slot and company.
Liverpool suffered another defeat on Saturday as Brentford controlled them in the Premier League. The Reds just couldn't find a way to make the game theirs - it was arguably the most worrying of the defeats so far.
It started badly with Brentford taking an early lead. Liverpool couldn't content with Michael Kayode's long throw and the ball was finished at the back post.
The team were then sliced open for a Brentford second, though Milos Kerkez did find his first Liverpool goal right before half-time. That at least gave Liverpool something of a foothold in the match.
But they were wildly unable to make anything of that. The second half was a huge struggle and Brentford found themselves a third via a penalty. Mo Salah's late strike at least made the last few minutes more interesting but it wasn't enough for Liverpool to get anything from the game.
A fourth defeat of the Premier League season, then - and they've all come in a row.
From forty-seven to four
Liverpool’s last four Premier League fixtures have been defeats. It’s an unfathomable run of games, equalling the number of defeats they suffered in the entirety of last season.
But when you look at stretches of four defeats, things are even crazier. Liverpool’s last four games have been losses - they’d had four defeats in their previous 47 (forty-seven) fixtures before that.
It’s a truly incredible run, then, and one that no one saw coming. It should be said that Liverpool’s start to the season was a little rocky, even if they found wins, but the expectation was that they’re improve, rather than regress.
Things are certainly heading in the wrong direction and Liverpool desperately want something positive against Crystal Palace in midweek. But it’s the meeting with Aston Villa next weekend that they’ll be most eager to win.
Though, at this point, even a draw would represent an improvement. Liverpool really do need something to build on in the Premier League and they need it quickly.
