Contract renewal for forward who can't stop scoring hits MAJOR roadblock

Liverpool have produced several top class youth and academy talents over the last few years.

And the latest striker making waves at Premier League 2 level is Keyrol Figueroa. The 19-year-old United States youth international cannot stop scoring at present - netting 11 goals in only 6 starts in PL2 this season.

Already the Honduran-born forward has been called up to Arne Slot’s senior squad - making the bench for the EFL Cup tie against Crystal Palace.

It was initially expected that Figueroa might go on loan during the winter transfer window but the forward ended up staying put. That may have to do with his contract situation as his current terms are due to expire in summer 2026.

It would have made sense for Liverpool sporting director to renew Figueroa’s deal before sending him out - otherwise another team would have the opportunity to use him before he leaves on a free in summer.

Liverpool try to renew Keyrol Figueroa's contract

There are plans for Liverpool to extend Figueroa’s deal - for another two years - according to Flashscore journalist Rudy Galetti.

“Thanks to his strong performances and regular goals, the English club has already opened talks to extend his deal by a further two years,” his report reads.

But there may be a complication.

The January window brought plenty of rumours that Figueroa was on the radar of several clubs around the world. Porto were mentioned most prominently and now Galetti has confirmed the Portuguese giants’ interest - along with more teams.

Interest from Porto and others

“Interest from other clubs is starting to increase,” he writes.

“Looking ahead to the summer, FC Porto have shown interest from Portugal, while several clubs in Spain’s Segunda División are following him as a promising long-term prospect.

“In addition, two Scottish clubs have also requested information. There has been formal interest from New York Red Bulls and Charlotte FC, although a move to Major League Soccer is not considered a priority at this stage.”

Figueroa changes agent

More intrigue is added by the fact that Figueroa has recently found new representation. The striker is now represented by the high-profile agent Federico Pastorello and his P&P Sport Management agency.

It could be that Figueroa is positioning himself for the best deal possible at Anfield and considering a step-up to the first team on a full-time basis.

Or else he and his new team are putting in the groundwork for a blockbuster summer free transfer away from Anfield. Liverpool will be keenly aware of the dangers of losing another homegrown player - particularly one with the Midas touch in front of goal.
